The best cup of coffee is one that you enjoy! So, sip away and have a look at some of these tips and tricks for your best cup yet!

The most important thing for a good cup of coffee is high-quality coffee beans (of course!) We always suggest purchasing coffee beans from local or small-batch roasters so you know you’ll get the most out of the aromas and flavours! Lucky for you, at Velo we believe in only purchasing the highest quality coffee beans, which we roast in small batches to the highest standards. We work very closely with our supplier, Olam, and can trace coffee beans right back to the farm they came from!

Now that you’ve purchased your coffee beans, you have to be sure to store them properly. Maintain the freshness of the coffee beans by storing them in an airtight container once the original packaging is open. Oxygen, light exposure, and temperature can all impact the quality of the beans! Make sure the temperature of the room they are stored in is not too hot, not too cold, but just right!

Timing is everything for brewing the perfect cup of coffee, but before you can brew, you have to grind. We always suggest buying whole bean coffee and grinding it at home just before brewing. Ground coffee can begin to lose its original taste in as little as 30 minutes after it’s ground (or so the legend says!)

That’s why you should wait to grind your coffee beans until you are going to make the coffee! We have a variety of grinders here to cater to your preference of coarseness depending on your chosen brew method! If you’re still saving up for that dream grinder, we do offer a grinding service when you purchase your beans.

You have the high-quality ingredients (your coffee beans) prepped and ready to go. Now it’s important to measure them accurately, the rule of thumb is 60 grams of coffee for every litre of water you use to brew (espresso based drinks are a bit different). We have detailed brew guides and videos for all the different methods to explain in more detail. So don’t panic! We have everything you need to guide you along the way!

The last tip we have for you today is to make sure you are brewing at the right temperature. The ideal temperature for water when brewing coffee is 94ºC. This temperature allows maximum extraction for all the flavours of the coffee. If the temperature is too cool, the coffee will taste flat and the coffee grounds will not brew properly. If the temperature is too hot, you risk burning the coffee, and nobody wants that!Velo Coffee Roasters BMX
